5 Ways to Cope with the 2020 Presidential Outcome
Approaching the 2020 Election with an Optimistic Attitude about America.
American politics took a frightening turn since Mr. Trump ran for office. Besides, no one thought he could have won, not even himself. However, Americans will always be on the road for elections in their democracy since they vote for a new president every four years. Now that we are five days away from election day, let us help each other to cope with what is to come.
1). There Will Be A Winner!
Yes! Of course, one of them must become the winner. Like it or not, our next Commander in Chief is either President Trump or former VP Biden. One set of people will be celebrating; the following group will be disappointed. Whatever side you are on, you should take the result with respect and love.
2). The Result is not the End of the World.
Although both candidates have a completely different vision for America, the end of the world won’t come when of them is elected. Whatever good you can take from the winner’s policies, make that the center of your focus. Even if the winner policies do more harm to you than good, there is something there for you to be thankful for. Find it and give thanks.
3). Fighting about the Winner does not Change the Result.
Everyone has their candidate for the presidency. The primary fact is that not everyone’s candidate will win; therefore, fighting and arguing over the winner will not change the result. If the American citizens choose to clash continuously over who should have been the president, it will derail us more from unifying and working together for a better country.
4). Accept the Winner and Congratulate His Supporters
I am a major fan of the game the entire world called Football, but here in America, we call it Soccer. One thing we love about the game is that the players shake each other’s hands in the end. Even when it is a brutal game such as what happened in the 2012 World Cup, Brazil vs. Germany, the players will sometimes exchange their shirts to celebrate the victory and exchange harmony. If your candidate loses, and you have been in a battle with family and friends as I am (sadly, some of my family is caught up in if you are Black you cannot vote for the other side), it would be a good time to ask the candidate supporters for a banner or a flag, etc. This will show that you have accepted the results, and you are ready to move forward with a positive attitude. You can also ask your friends or families who support the winner to share some drastic expectations from the candidate’s campaign, and you, too, can be optimistic about what is to come.
5). Always Remember that the Lord is in Control.
When it comes to politics, many would question if God even cares. But the Bible tells us that He does, and He is even the one to set up leaders and to remove them. According to Daniel 4:17, “This decision is by the decree of the watchers, and the sentence by the word of the holy ones, in order that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, gives it to whomever He will, and sets over it the lowest of men.” Just keep in mind that the Lord rules in the affairs of men. Also, God is a just God. He gives rewards, and He gives punishment. When He wants to punish a nation, Jesus will give a particular leader. Also, when He wants to bless a nation, He gives a specific leader.
After 3 November, Jesus remains King and the earth still belongs to Him. No matter who He gives us as a leader, we must exercise 1 Timothy 2:1–4:
Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
As a Christian, I am looking for a leader who will establish righteousness in the land. However, it is essential for me to continuously pray for all those in the government’s three branches. It would be best if you do the same.
